This last week we have had some beautiful weather to be out fishing Lake Minnetonka. We had some rain, but we did get all of the guide trips in without getting too wet.

The fishing continues to be good with good numbers of fish being caught on every outing.

Northern Pike guide Lake Minnetonka

The Northern pike are still hitting crankbaits often while being trolled behind the boat at 2.4-2.8 mph.

Most days, the key is to be as close to the weedline as you can without hooking the weeds. You want that tip of the rod to be vibrating, always. If it stops vibrating it's because the crank picked up some weeds on the hooks.  A simple tip is to snap that rod back to try to get the weeds off.  If that doesn't work, reel the crankbait in and pull the weeds off it.

We have had multiple doubles while trolling crankabits through schools of fish.  And we catch more than just pike, too, while doing this.

The bass are still active on the lake as well.  They have been biting ned rigs and jigworms the best for us lately. But you can still catch a few on wacky worms around docks, too. Most of the bass are hanging up in the weeds in 10-15' of water. Some days they will be a bit deeper. The thick weeds are key on bright sunny days. Have plenty of jigs because the pike have been biting us off often as well.

We did catch a small musky this week while bass fishing. And we seen a 50" musky that we couldn't get to commit. So they are starting to get more active as the water temps start to recover and are back in the low 70's. Throw a dark colored bucktail to get these fish to commit in 10-20' of water.  Always remember, there are some BIG muskies in Lake Minnetonka, so try to be prepared for those situations.

I have heard of a few walleyes being caught by guys live scoping them. A friend of mine caught a nice 29" walleye this week. So if you target them remember it just takes one good bite and it could be a big Lake Minnetonka walleye.  The Westonka walleye stocking program has been making the lake a much better walleye lake in recent years. They stock 10-13" fish in the lake each fall from the fundraiser they have each spring. If you live scope some fish just throw out a bobber and leech or crawler and watch the fish come up and inhale it.

The sunfish and crappies are biting throughout the lake in 10-12' of water. Them big pumpkin seeds are hungry. A bobber set up and gulp alive 1" minnow will catch these big panfish regularly.

I hope everyone has a good 4th of July! Be safe, the lakes will be busy.
