The weather has been hot this last week and the bite has been even hotter! This is your latest fishing report from Set the Hook Guide Service.
The big Northern Pike came out to play this week. They crushed crankbaits being trolled in 16-20' of water. We've been using aggressive crankbaits and it's been paying off with consistent fish.
My clients caught multiple fish in the 28-33.5" range. And a couple big ones didn't make it in the boat. Sometimes they just come unbuttoned unfortunately. You know they are big fish when they stay down deep in the water and you don't see them till they're almost to the boat. The smaller fish will come up to near the top of the water in the first few cranks of the reel.
Make sure you are using heavy fluorocarbon line so these toothy fish don't bite through it. You can make your own leaders or SPRO makes good ones too. A 50-65 lb will do the trick for these toothy northern pike.
The bass fishing still remains good, as well. We are seeing the fish moving deeper, with some out to 20' of water now. Work these fish slow off or near the bottom near good thick weeds. The ned rigs and jigworms are working best most days and producing some nice fish.
Give me a shout if you'd like to get out on the water on Lake Minnetonka!
