Early August Fishing Report on the Big Minnetonka

As we get deep into the summer, fishing overall has been really good and has brought a lot of smiles. This is the latest from Lake Minnetonka.
Bass fishing remains the best bite right now. We are finding some nice-sized schools of fish on the outer weed edges. The jigworms have been the best baits for us. I've been using an 1/8 oz Leena Lures jighead. The jighead is not a round one. It's tapered on the sides so it pulls through the weeds better. Then put a dark-colored Berkley 7-inch Power Worm on it. Works these slow and even just let it sit on the bottom, and the bass will swim in and suck it up. Then Set The Hook and enjoy the fight.
At one location on Friday, we pulled in 13 nice-sized bass, including a big 21"er. Boy, when it rains, the fishing can be really good, to say the least.
We are still catching some northern pike in 14-20' trolling bluegill colored crankbaits. Just start trolling the weedline and hold on. Some days there can be a lot of floating weeds on top of the water. This can make it hard to troll. If a bay is full of floating weeds, just move on to a different bay. We are catching a few nice bass this way too.
Soon it will fall, and the water temps will drop, and the fish will start moving shallow. This is a fun time to target all species of fish.
