Early September Fishing Report Near Minneapolis

The Latest from Lake Minnetonka in MN...

The fishing continues to be good on Lake Minnetonka. On Sunday, clients put 31 fish in the boat. Most of them were nice bass, with a couple of pike in the mix.

The bass we are catching are on ned rigs and jigworms, worked slow in 12-20' of water. The key is when you cast out, let the plastic worm sit on the bottom. Then, after about 20 seconds, lift up the line with your fishing pole and set the hook on the bass that are on. You can't work it too slow.

The size of jig we are using is 1/5 oz on the neds and 1/8 oz on the jig worms. We are finding that in one spot the jig worms might work better, and then in other areas the ned rigs work better. So it's best to mix it up to let the bass tell you what they want.

The pike fishing is still good on crankbaits trolled behind the boat in 14-20' weed edge. We are catching some nice-sized bass this way too.

These patterns should continue with the warm weather again this week.

I still have some openings in September and October if you would like to get out; let me know.
