More Mid-August Guided Fishing Action from the Lake
The Latest from Lake Minnetonka in MN...
The weather has been good this last week, and the fishing has been too. Water temps are still warm, 75-78 degrees. The location of the fish hasn't changed too much.
The bass we are catching have been in 12-20' of water. Plastics, worms, and ned rigs continue to catch most of these fish. Right now there is a lot of bait in the lake. One day we were watching sunfish chase the minnows right out of the water. And the loons are diving for the minnows too. There are a lot of loons on Lake Minnetonka. It's fun watching them come up out of the water with a minnow, and then feeding it to their young. If you see a lot of minnows in an area, the fish are not too far away. We are catching both bass and pike near them. And thick weeds coming up off the bottom have been key.
We are still catching Northern Pike while trolling deep-diving crankbaits in 14-22' on the lower portion of the lake. We usually pick up a few bass this way too. Once we get some cooler nights and the water starts cooling down, these pike will start moving into shallower water. Then we will switch to casting spinnerbaits up in the shallow weed beds.
We haven't fished for crappies this week but have started catching a few of them on ned rigs.
A few smaller muskies are starting to show up. It won't be long, and they will turn it on.
