Late August Report from Lake Minnetonka
The Latest from Lake Minnetonka in MN...
The weather this last week has been great. But we do need some rain to bring the lake water level up. Lake Minnetonka is down a foot from the same time last year. They have now closed the dam, so that will help.
The fishing has still been good. I don't remember a year that the pike fishing has been this good all year. Most of the pike we are still catching are in 14-20' of water. Crankbaits trolled on the weed edge have been the ticket. But we are still catching a few while bass fishing with the ned rigs. We tried throwing spinnerbaits up shallower and caught a couple, but most of the pike are still out in the deep weeds.
The bass most days are hitting the ned rigs in 15-20' weeds. We are still catching good numbers and size of bass here.
No muskies or walleyes this week, but they will be starting to feed up here soon. The water temps are still 74-75 degrees.
If you are looking to do some ice fishing this winter, it's not too early to reserve a fish house. I have been booking a few the last couple of weeks. The Yetti fish houses are a popular choice. And they will book up fast, especially on the weekends. I added a new one this year that will sleep up to 6 people. I supply all the bait and fishing equipment; all you need is a fishing license. The ice houses usually go out the week of Christmas and will come off the lake by March 1st.
