Late July Report from Minnetonka

The weather this week was hot with not much wind; when we got a little wind or a few clouds, it felt good. But the heat didn't hurt the fishing at all.
The bass fishing was on fire! One corporate event on Thursday; clients won with 30 bass. Then Friday morning, another fun corporate event with points for multiple different species. My clients boated 59 fish. They caught 45 bass, 2 northern pike, and 12 sunfish/rock bass. This was enough for these guys to win with me for the second time in 3 years. They caught 25 bass in the last 40-45 minutes to get the Win. Now that is rally time! Man, they kept me busy with the net. Multiple doubles and triples. Nice job guys, we will see you next year.
The bass were stacked in 18' of water near the weed edge and bit on ned rigs and jigworms. Dark colors or minnow colors with a chartreuse jig head have worked the best. Let the bait just sit, then give it a little jig to get them to bite. If you work them too fast, you won't get bit.
The pike fishing remains good trolling crankbaits on the deep weed edge in 14-20'. If there are not many weeds in an area, don't even bother trying to catch pike there. They are in the weeds on these bright sunny days we have been having lately.
The walleye fishing has been slow, but we did pick up 2 smaller ones this week trolling crankbaits.
We haven't targeted any panfish, but have caught a few crappies and some big pumpkinseeds while trolling and bass fishing.
We didn't target any muskies either this week, with the water temps being in the upper 80's. This is hard on these big fish. We don't want to kill any. Summer is flying by. Book a trip now before it's over.
