The Lake Minnetonka Crappie Fishing Guide Report

April 18, 2026

This is the latest fishing report from Lake Minnetonka for crappies.  I hit lake Minnetonka Friday morning knowing that a front and rain was on its way. It was nice out with air temp in the middle 60's and a water temp of 57. I found a few crappies right away but nothing too big and a few sunfish also in the mix.

Then as I went down the shoreline the crappies really started to go. Then the thunder and lightning were getting close, and it started to rain hard, so I slid my boat into an empty boat slip that had a canopy. While under the canopy I threw a cast out to the end of the dock and bam a nice 12" crappie.

The storm moved through pretty fast, so I dropped my trolling motor back down and moved down aways to the end of a dock and started casting horizontally to the end of the dock where I caught the 12" crappie. They were stacked and every crappie was 11-12". After that spot cooled down, I moved to a different set of docks and found another nice school of crappies.

There was a lot of fish here I wish I would've had my clicker in the boat to keep count of them. But I'm sure I had over 60 fish. All of the fish were caught on Bobby Garland baby shad plastics under a float.

This just goes to show you how a front moving in can really turn the fish on. This next week looks warm again after this cold weekend. I think the crappie fishing will be good if you want to get out on Lake Minnetonka.  If you're in need of a Crappie Fishing Guide on Lake Minnetonka, give me a shout at 952.454.3266 - See you on the water!

The crappie fishing has started on Lake Minnetonka this week. I found them in 3-6' of water. I used gulp alive minnows and plastics under a bobber worked too.
