Crappies!

March 6, 2026

The weather has been a roller coaster lately and the ice is starting to get soft. But we still have about 20" of ice in most spots on Lake Minnetonka. So walking is your best bet as the access points get bad first.

I have been going north the last 2 weeks, and the fishing has been good for panfish and some crappies up to 13". When the fish come in, they are hungry they swim fast up to the bait and inhale it. Plastics or waxworms on small jigs have been best for the sunfish. The crappies are hitting minnow heads or the full minnow and a red hook. They don't stay around to long because the Northern Pike are roaming the same area. The ice is still 25" where I have been fishing but it's getting wet now. So, my ice fishing is now done for the season.

It's time to put the ice fishing gear away and start going through the summer gear.

It's not too early to book your open water trip. We are starting to fill the Calendar in June already.

The crappie fishing has started on Lake Minnetonka this week. I found them in 3-6' of water. I used gulp alive minnows and plastics under a bobber worked too.
